Startup Funding Rebounds, Concentrated Heavily in AI
Venture capital deployment has picked up from its multi-year low, though a shrinking share of companies is capturing a growing share of the money.

Venture capital funding has risen from its multi-year low, according to data tracking global startup investment, but the recovery has been narrow: a small number of very large funding rounds, concentrated almost entirely in artificial intelligence companies, account for a disproportionate share of the total.
Several AI infrastructure and applications companies raised funding rounds at valuations sharply above prior benchmarks in the sector, drawing continued comparisons to the dot-com era's rapid re-rating of technology valuations — comparisons that supporters argue understate the revenue growth underlying the current cycle.
Outside of AI, funding conditions remain considerably tighter. Seed and early-stage rounds in other sectors have been slower to recover, and founders report longer fundraising timelines and more investor scrutiny of unit economics than during the more permissive funding environment of several years ago.
Investors describe a bifurcated market: intense competition and high valuations for a small set of AI companies viewed as category leaders, alongside a much more cautious, selective approach to nearly everything else.
